Bring the Billion$ home to repair our country.
Cut wasteful military spending such as the Iraq and Afghanistan wars, and transfer the savings to fund human and environmental needs. The money to finance one soldier in Afghanistan could pay for 60 green jobs! Let’s create a humane and green economy with thousands of new jobs.

Please approve the bill: Caring for Camp Lejeune 2011 that is now in your comittee.
Caring for Camp Lejeune Act 2011 shows that our Senators CARE about the veterans that were contaminated while serving there country. They gave the ultimate sacrifice, now they should get the benefits they deserve.

Get rid of the "war racket" which only sacrifices humans for money for connected bigwigs.
War is a racket. Google up Smedley Butler for the Congressional Medal of Honor winner's famous speech on the subject. Quit murdering people to make a quick buck.

Be sure that benefits fit the needs of the aging population. Many need orthodics, dental care, hearing aids, etc. but are not eligible.458 votes -

Cut the Pentagon's budget and use money to fully fund veteran's programs.
I think that part of the problem of fully taking care of our veterans is a lack of money. I would guess that even a 1-2% cut would allow us to really take care of those that have served this country.

Veterans should not be homeless
Make sure homeless shelters such as St. Martin de Poores in Seattle are able to stay open offering a safe place to sleep even if it is a mat on the ground. Many of the people who stay there are veterans. After what many veterans have sacrificed, it is shameful that veterans are living on the streets or sleeping on a mat on the floor in a shelter and have to use a ratty old towel or bathrobe. I am embarassed that our country ignores what terrible living conditions many veterans have to endure for years. We owe our peace… more

Honor Veterans by taking care of them and NOT shirking our duty to them.
How many times have we heard to veterans coming home and having: 1) homes foreclosed, 2) can not get proper healthcare, 3) are homeless - what a disgrace.

Restore the 100% “GI Bill” benefits that were available to Veterans, who served in “WW II“, and the “Korean Conflict”. These “GI” , benefits, helped us establish a, “well“, educated middle class, that has been ignored and diminished, and we can not be a success and viable nation without one.
Thank you,
Jim

Give Small Business a tax break for hiring vets/reserve members
Many employers often are reluctant to hire a vet or a reserve member. This is because often they have a higher amount of medical visits and/or drill and training requirements. This hurts their ability to get hired, even if they are an excellent choice. This fact hurts vets/reservists because it makes it hard to get a job in a sector that drives employment. Small businesses cannot afford to give the same leave or bennifets as larger cooperations who can re-shuffle people to compensate for the required absences. Under USERA you cannot discriminate against someone for this, but you also just… more

Stop withholding their annual cost of living increases
For the past tow years disabled veterans and their family memebers have not recived their annual cost of living increases. Veterans affairs states it is because inflation had not risen enough to allow for the increases. That needs to be changed. there is still inflation and inflation in one place in the United States will not be the same in another, but this blanket formula dooms all vets to decreased buying power each year, period.

Protect the funding for their medical care by making tough budget choices
The govermnent is heading towards bankruptcy. Funding to pay for Veterans medical care will go first. You have to stand up and to the right thing. Make tough budget choices. Don't continue to violate my trust by refusing to fix social security. I am paying in for nothing right now. The age limit must be raised period.
